Pregnancy Loss

The loss of a baby whether by early miscarriage, stillbirth (after 20 weeks), or other neonatal loss can feel intolerable. Feelings of shock, despair, sadness, anger, isolation, or anxiety might be overwhelming. Unlike other experiences of loss and grief, pregnancy loss is often minimized and unacknowledged even by those closest. Not feeling understood can intensify the grief and even prolong it.

A miscarriage, even more difficult, repeated miscarriages, other pregnancy loss, or infertility can also affect subsequent pregnancies. Women may worry about the health of her pregnancy or she might feel a resurgence of grief related to past miscarriages or terminations.

Talking to a caring professional about your feelings about the loss can help you to bear them and eventually move through them.
