Individuals come to counseling for a myriad of reasons. Usually underlying all the reasons is a feeling of discontent with some aspect of life and the wish for change. Talking about our thoughts and feelings in counseling and learning to be mindful and present with them helps us to relate to ourselves, our creativity, and others from our authentic, true selves.
Areas of expertise with individuals are:
- depression and anxiety
- career development
- relationships, including primary, children, parents, friends
- alcohol and drug use
- unresolved trauma, including sexual and physical abuse
- grief and loss
- personal and spiritual growth
I would like to say a little about depression since that is one of the most common issues that comes up among my patients. There are millions of people whose lives have been affected by depression. Depression can effect your relationships, work, and leisure-time activities. A depressive episode can last a short or a long time, sometimes it can last for years. During an episode, you may feel like pulling away from your family and friends. Every day tasks may seem too big to handle. You may lose interest in the activities that you once enjoyed. You may want to isolate yourself from others who may want to offer their support.
In our therapy sessions, you will find empathy and understanding and together we will discover the roots and interpersonal meaning of the depression.
Depression is a symptom, a plea for attention to some part of you that desperately needs to be seen and heard. In our work together we will tend to that lost part of you.
